Our Angel

Jacob B. Flesher, 8 year old son of Ben and Elizabeth Flesher of Manchester, went peacefully from his earthly home to his heavenly home Monday, August 19, 2013, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester with burial in the church cemetery.

Born June 24, 2005 in Dubuque, Iowa with a priceless smile and a giving heart Jacob lived his short life with a purpose. He was a self-less soul; always looking out for his brother and sisters and even his mommy and daddy, collecting toys to donate to the Children's Hospital for other sick children, and having empathy for others plights in life. Even through his many hardships in life he found joy, love, and hope with an amazing strength and courage. He taught us well and will forever be in our hearts.

Jacob loved Star Wars, animals (especially his rescue kitten; Skippy), drawing, LEGO, cooking, gardening, his family and friends, and life. He made the most of everyday and fit more into his life of 8 years than many do in decades.

Survivors include his parents, Ben and Elizabeth (Kenyon) Flesher of Manchester, 3 siblings: Rebecca-9, Joseph-5 and Amy-4 months all at home, grandparents: Mary Potter Kenyon of Manchester, Starlett (Nick) Luna of Milan, OH, a step-grandfather, Kevin Hinkle of Willard, OH, aunts and uncles; Daniel Kenyon, Michael Kenyon, Rachel Kenyon, Matthew Kenyon, Emily Kenyon, Katherine Kenyon, and Abigail Kenyon, Jeff (Cherie) Flesher and Mandy Flesher; many great aunts & uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, David Kenyon and Charles Flesher.

Special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque; especially Edna and Jenni.

  2. I found your blog several years ago, before Jacob ever began his battle. I originally followed because your family is just so much different than my own! Jacob won my heart and over the years I've prayed - and prayed hard! - for that precious, precious boy.

My heart is breaking for your family. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. It's my hope that you feel our love and prayers. Sweet Jacob touched so many lives. God bless your family.

  3. Oh, Elizabeth, I'm so heartbroken over your loss. I, too, have followed for years, commenting here and there, though never too consistently, and I remember those initial days of Jacob's early battle. He was such a special young man, loved and prayed for by many. Your family will continue to be in my prayers, this week, and beyond.
